An undergraduate law degree at the University of Sydney. Many school-leavers take law as a combined degree; a graduate-entry path also exists. Confirm which route matches your background before you picture a three-year standalone LLB.

The Bachelor of Laws is a professional law degree. It covers the core of Australian legal knowledge required for later admission pathways, plus electives the school offers in a given year.
It is not a short “legal studies” major inside another bachelor’s. The academic load is substantial. Combined degrees take longer than a single bachelor’s because you complete two awards.
Admission to practise as a lawyer in Australia has further steps after the LLB (practical legal training and admitting-authority rules). This degree is academic preparation, not a practising certificate.
You learn how legal systems work, how to read authority, and how to apply doctrine to problems. Optional subjects then let you lean toward particular fields of law.
Australian LLBs include prescribed areas of knowledge needed for admission pathways. The school maps those onto its core subjects. Confirm the current cores.
Case analysis, statutory interpretation and structured writing are the daily craft — more than memorising rules.
Later-year electives, where offered, cover specialist areas. They change. Do not plan a career on an elective that may not run.

Structure depends on whether you are in a combined undergraduate degree or a graduate-entry LLB. Those are different maps.
School-leavers often combine Law with another bachelor’s. Total duration is longer. Both faculties’ rules apply.
If you already hold a degree, a shorter graduate-entry LLB may be the relevant product. Do not apply to the wrong course code.
A typical law degree front-loads compulsory subjects, then opens electives. The handbook is the sequence.
Entry standards for Law are competitive and differ for combined undergraduate and graduate-entry applicants.
Undergraduate combined Law uses secondary results (and any stated prerequisites). Graduate-entry uses your prior degree. The published ATAR/selection rank or GPA equivalent is a university figure — we will not invent a cut-off.
Some law admissions use extra evidence or schemes. Check the current Law admissions page rather than copying last year’s forum advice.
Transcripts and English language evidence for many international applicants. Combined degrees may need you to meet both faculties’ rules.

The University of Sydney International Scholarship in our listing is aimed at commencing postgraduate research students — not a typical undergraduate LLB award. Coursework scholarships, when they exist, are listed on the university site.
An LLB can support pathways toward legal practice, policy, government or business roles that need legal literacy. Practice as a solicitor or barrister requires further steps after the degree.
Graduates may pursue practical legal training and admission. Those processes are regulated and separate from the university’s academic award.
Some graduates use the degree in public service, compliance, or further study. None of these is guaranteed by the title “Bachelor of Laws”.
